On Thursday, May 25, 2023, a meeting was held in the governor’s office in Phoenix, Arizona. The meeting was organized by Arizona Faith Network, which is a statewide organization of people of faith working to dismantle systems of oppression and promote justice, peace, and equality in Arizona. The governor of Arizona, Katie Hobbs, was present at the meeting, along with representatives from different faith groups.
During the meeting, there were constructive discussions about the role of faith communities in the state. The representatives from different faith groups shared their perspectives on how to ensure that all communities in Arizona are safe and secure. The governor acknowledged the importance of religious diversity in Arizona and the need to safeguard all communities.
Together with other faith leaders, we found the opportunity to express our gratitude to the governor for proposing financial support from the government for faith communities in Arizona. As the head of Imams Council of AZ, I introduced to the governor the council and the community of United Islamic Center of Arizona, where I work as an Imam and invited her to our center. Among many issues raised by different faith leaders, I found the opportunity to stress on the importance of the governments support in dealing with refugees in the state of Arizona.
