Joint Statement from the Arizona Islamic Centers/Mosques
Regarding the Global Coronavirus Pandemic
(also known as SARS-CoV-2 or COVID-19)
March 20. 2020
All praise belongs to God. May His peace and blessings be upon His beloved Prophet Muhammad, his family members, his companions, and all of those who followed his way of life.
In order to protect ourselves and families from the Corona Virus (COVID-19) Outbreak, the Imams and representative leadership of the mosques in Arizona held meetings to discuss how to best protect the interests of our community from the possible harms of this virus. Based on our Islamic jurisprudential principals and the advice from the medical doctors, we agreed on the following:
- Starting from Saturday. March 13, all the events, the five daily prayers, and the Jumuah will be suspended until further notice.
- Instead of Jumuah, Individuals should perform Dhuhr Prayer in their respective places.
- We encourage our community members to stay in touch with the Mosque/Center through the proper means of communication (i.e. Mosque email subscription, and their websites, social media platforms, such as Facebook, Instagram,). Also, we highly encourage following through with recommendations and remain up to date from these two official sources:
Arizona Department of Health (local) – www.azdhs.goy
Center for Disease Control and Prevention (national) – www.cdc.gov
During these difficult times, we pray to God to give us all a quick relieve and to strengthen our hearts and increase us in faith.
