Delivered by Imam Didmar Faja
All praise is due to Allah, and Allah’s Peace and Blessings be upon His Final Messenger, his family, his noble Companions, and all those who follow them with righteousness until the Day of Judgment.
Dear Muslims, Shaytan works intensively to misguide people and make them commit sins, not only that, but when they are engaged in sin, he beautifies the sin to them. One of the ways he makes people become victims of his trap is by using illegal drugs. No doubt that illegal drug is very harmful to the human body and prohibited in Islam. Almighty Allah warned humans against Shaytan by saying:
وَمَن يَتَّخِذِ ٱلشَّيۡطَـٰنَ وَلِيًّ۬ا مِّن دُونِ ٱللَّهِ فَقَدۡ خَسِرَ خُسۡرَانً۬ا مُّبِينً۬ا (١١٩) يَعِدُهُمۡ وَيُمَنِّيہِمۡۖ وَمَا يَعِدُهُمُ ٱلشَّيۡطَـٰنُ إِلَّا غُرُورًا
“… and whoever takes the Shaitan for a guardian rather than Allah he indeed shall suffer a manifest loss. Satan makes them promises, and creates in them false desires; but satan’s promises are nothing but deception. (4:119-120)
The use of illegal drugs
Illegal Drugs are present in the society we live in. They are more present in some of the young ones. There are some individuals who sell it, some who transport it and some who use it. We as Muslims should be a great example to the humanity. Sometimes we hear or see young Muslims using illegal drugs. The reason of the use maybe lack of understanding about the damages that come from it, or the parents do not emphasize enough of its damages or the friends impact is so great and the young one cannot say NO.
In the Holy Quran Allah said,
وَلَا تُلْقُوا بِأَيْدِيكُمْ إِلَى التَّهْلُكَةِ وَأَحْسِنُوا إِنَّ اللَّهَ يُحِبُّ الْمُحْسِنِينَ
“…and do not cast yourselves into ruin with your own hands. Do all things gracefully, for Allah loves those who do all things with excellence.” (2:195)
Symptoms
Change in Behavior, coming home during the late hours. Asks for a lot of money. The day turns into the night and the night turns into the day for the young ones.
The one consuming the illegal drug does not respect ones parents or elders.
Shows too much courage. Taking extra doses, which is most likely to send one towards suicide.
Health Problems: – May cause the heart not to function normally, Headaches; weaken the immune system and much more.
Damages
Causes one to remain far from Islam
Motivates one to commit major sins like prostitution, rape, consuming a lot of alcohol, killing of others or even committing suicide.
Every 40 sec there is an act of suicide taking place in the entire world. Every 20 sec there is someone committing suicide in the United States.
It takes a person to poverty. It causes degradation and will also lead to a person becoming a beggar.
Preventing from the use of illegal drug
My dear brothers and sisters, the followings are some of the ways we can use in order to prevent people from using illegal drugs.
Society at large must condemn the use of illegal drug and always work within their capabilities toward the elimination of its use.
Parents have to be aware of their children who they associate with and be vigilant all the time. They must explain the harms of the illegal drugs from the time they are young and not neglect this issue. They should not expect only the others to educate their children but they should take charge in educating them especially on important issues like this. Different institutions including schools must talk about it and educate people especially young students about the harms that come from using the illegal drugs.
